Homeland Security and Services
Boeing Airport Security Programs, Homeland Security and Services was part of a team that helped the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) achieve on of the largest short-term projects in U.S. government history – to ensure 100 percent checked baggage screening at all U.S. airports. This involved the installation of more than 1,000 explosive detection systems machines and 4,500 explosive trace detection machines at 400-plus commercial airports in the United States and training more than 25,000 baggage screeners – in less than six months. As lead systems integrator, Boeing coordinated the involvement and buy-in of over 3,000 stakeholders nationwide including the TSA, the nation’s airports and airlines and many other officials at the local, state and national levels.
Looking ahead, Boeing’s vision of the next generation of aviation security emphasizes network centric operations to integrate and connect disparate agencies, machines and technologies.
“To test the new concept of Risk Based Certification, DNV could not find a more suitable candidate than Boeing Airport Security Program (ASP) headquartered in Richardson, Texas,” stated Yehuda Dror, President of DNV Certification who was also the lead auditor throughout the certification process.
Boeing ASP embraced the new approach to certification with enthusiasm since its own mentality is very well geared towards focusing on critical processes. ASP was awarded its ISO 9001:2000 certificate in November 2004.
ASP manages the Airport security Program for the Transportation Security Agency (TSA) of US Homeland Security Office. This involves in part assuring that when TSA equipment fails, ASP assures that it is repaired by the OEM and is ready within the parameters specified by TSA. Customer focus and the need to mitigate inconvenience to the airline passengers is of paramount important and any improvement of our processes to ensure passenger’s security and comfort is invaluable to us, hence the benefits of Risk Based Certification, stated Gary D. Hartley, Senior Manager Quality Boeing ASP.
