Climate Change JI Projects
The Joint Implementation (JI) scheme encourages and rewards emissions reduction initiatives between industrialised countries that have signed the Kyoto Protocol. You can use the emission reduction credits earned to meet your reduction commitments.

Established under the Kyoto Protocol, the JI scheme is an incentive to companies in industrialised countries to reduce emissions through cooperative efforts. When participating in a JI project, you can meet your reduction commitments abroad where greenhouse gas (GHG) abatement costs are lower. The Kyoto Protocol requires that certain JI projects are subjected to determination and/or verification by an operating entity, i.e. third party verifier.

Find out what the JI scheme is and why your business will benefit from participating in a JI project.

Partner with DNV for:

  • Determination (validation) of your JI project. This is a prerequisite if the host country has not established a GHG inventory and reporting procedures in accordance with the Kyoto Protocol.
  • Verification of emission reductions credits and project compliance with criteria defined in the Kyoto protocol.

The road to verification will help you prepare for the independent audit.

The UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) is working on an accreditation scheme for operating entities. DNV expects to become UNFCCC-accredited as an operating entity under the Joint Implementation scheme to perform independent project verifications of emission reductions.

Risk Based Certification

What and Why
The Joint Implementation (JI) scheme helps industrialised countries reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions cost-efficiently. It also encourages transfer of technology and know-how between cooperating countries.

Determination
Determination of your Joint Implementation (JI) project is a validation of the project design documentation. This assessment is mandatory if the host country has not established a GHG inventory and reporting procedures in accordance with the Kyoto Protocol.
 more..

Verification
Verification determines emissions reductions or removals, and compliance with applicable Kyoto Protocol criteria. Verification is mandatory for Joint Implementation (JI) projects when host countries do not meet applicable methodology and reporting requirements.

Road to Verification
To obtain verified emissions reduction units from a JI project, you have to follow certain steps as required by the Kyoto Protocol and Marrakech Accord.
